Other Therapies I Use

A further technique I use where relevant is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

In essence, in the late twentieth century, a body preserved in a glacier was discovered with tattoo marks on it mapping out relevant acupuncture treatment points.   Gary Craig developed Emotional Freedom Technique, after discovering the tapping of all 14 acupuncture meridians.  His discovery statement is that basically……”the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system”…..  If you therefore have a distressing memory or thought, it causes a disruption, or a “short circuit” in the body’s energy system (i.e.meridian system).  This in turn, causes negative emotions and anxieties.

Therefore, our feelings are emotions.  Everyone wants to control/master them, delete them or simply make them go away.  When feelings get stuck, for example after experiencing an unpleasant situation you may feel hurt in the stomach, our energy is disrupted leading to reduced functioning of our potential/creativity.

Emotional Freedom Technique then uses a system of “tapping” into a blocked emotion through working on the 14 major energy points.

Any tapping you do stimulates the meridians, relaxes you, calms you, and makes you feel a little better, and of course, by focusing on and tuning into the blocked energy, it releases it.  After all, there is a direct relationship between the quality of a person’s emotions and their physical health and hence, when we experience a negative emotion we can often hit a downward spiral.   When something is stuck or blocked somewhere it is often likened to a dam on a river.  Any energy disturbance that is stuck, can be released because there will be a valve somewhere to help establish the free-flow of energy once more.

In essence, EFT works like acupuncture (without the needles) whilst we also think about the problem we want to work on.  This is the intention.

By working with EFT in this way, it is said to helpful in aiding:

  • Physical ailments and pain, such as a physical symptom connected to an illness, hayfever, psoriasis, allergy, headache or migraine
  • Emotional issues on relationships: at the core of most relationships lie strong and overwhelming issues such as fear (e.g. a fear of flying), low self-esteem, feelings of jealousy, feelings of abandonment, feelings of hurt, feelings of being unloved, feelings of being trapped or even desperate.
  • Phobias, such as being afraid of heights or spiders
  • Sleep disturbances – insomnia
  • Addictions, such as smoking, alcohol, food (chocolate), being a workaholic, an excessive money spender or exerciser, continual self-harm, obsessive behaviour disorder, ME, or having an inability to lose weight (constantly trying but unable to succeed)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Athletic Performance
